Just a Dream… July 20, 2006

When I was trying to get pregnant with our first child, I handled the two week wait much differently. I held out for as long as I could without testing, not knowing at the time that one could test positive before her period was due. It had honestly never entered my mind to test early. Then one night a few days shy of the end of our second Clomid cycle, I had a dream that made me want to rush right out and get a pregnancy test.

I dreamed that I had taken a new-fangled pregnancy that would not only tell you whether or not you were pregnant, but it would also tell you whether you were having a boy or a girl. A blue wavy line represented a boy, and a pink wavy line would mean a girl. In the dream, I peed on the test and got both a blue line and a pink line, indicating that we were pregnant with boy/girl twins. I woke up with my heart pounding. It was so real, that I woke up feeling a little dejected once I realized that it was just a dream. However, I did feel like it must have been some sort of sign, because I had never before dreamed of getting a positive pregnancy test.

I managed to hold out one more day before going to the store to look at pregnancy tests. I had no intention of testing that day, but I figured that at least having my tests in the house would temper just a bit of the anticipation. So after school, my sister Dani (who at the time was in the 7th grade) and I headed to Wal-Mart. I moseyed over to the aisle where the pregnancy tests were, and lo and behold – there was a new test that could detect pregnancy a full four days before your period was due! I snatched up one box of First Response Early Detection tests (FREDs), with my plans to wait on testing chucked clearly out of the window. I was actually five days away from the end of my cycle, but figured that one little day probably wouldn’t make too much of a difference. It was Halloween, and the only things that we came out with were a ton of candy and that one box of pregnancy tests.

Upon entering the house, I dropped the bags on the kitchen table and raced to the bathroom with my box of FREDs. I had taken a hundred pregnancy tests before and had even taken a few of the regular First Response pregnancy tests, but I read through every word of the instructions before testing. I sat down on the toilet and used a little cup to catch some of the pee. I carefully dipped the test for exactly 5 seconds, then recapped it (with the stick pointing down, of course), then placed it on the edge of the tub to my right to wait out the three minutes it would take to read the results.

After exactly one minute passed, I casually glanced over at the test just to be sure that it was working, just as the instructions said to do. I wasn’t expecting to see anything just yet, so my heart dropped when I saw that there were already two dark lines on my pregnancy test. Two lines. Two lines? TWO LINES!?! I had never before, in the zillions of tests that I had taken, gotten two lines. I think I must have sat there for a full minute absolutely shell-shocked, then suddenly snapped out of my stupor to frantically grab the instruction leaflet to be sure that on these new tests, two lines didn’t all of the sudden mean negative. When I confirmed that yes, two lines still meant pregnancy, I cried.

My heart continued to pound, but at some point I was able to hear Frank walk in the door over the deafening sound of my racing heartbeat. I took off down the hall (with my pants still down around my ankles) to get Frank. I remembered to pull up my britches just before entering our bedroom (wouldn’t that have been his lucky day, to come home to find his wife greeting him with her pants off). I simply took him by the hand, and without saying a word, I lead him to the bathroom. I put the test in his hand and said nothing. At first he had a blank expression on his face. Then I could see a cautious twinkle in his eyes as he asked, “What’s this mean?” Now, he’d seen tons of my negative tests, so I knew that he was just asking out of disbelief and needed me to confirm his hope that this time I might really be pregnant, much in the same way that I needed to reread the leaflet. “You mean…it worked?” As I nodded my head, his eyes began to water and he grabbed me into a huge hug.

About a week later, we found out that we were pregnant with twins. At 20 weeks of pregnancy, we found out that we were, indeed, pregnant with a girl and a boy. Talk about your wildest dreams coming true.

Now, I’m just a few hours shy of being 4dp5dt (4 days past a transfer of 5 day old embryos, for you non-surrogacy/IVF people), and I’m finally far enough past transfer where I could possibly see a positive pregnancy test. It’s still very early and I might have a few days more to wait before seeing anything, but I’m definitely now in that window.

Last night I had the second positive pregnancy test dream that I’ve ever had. This dream was quite simple, really. It was late at night, and just before bed I went into the bathroom to do my final-pee-of-the-night round of pregnancy testing. One test was a new design, and the result window measured about 3 x 3 inches. I also used a Dollar Tree test. I used a dropper to put a few drops of pee into the testing wells, then left the tests on the bathroom counter to process for three minutes. When I came back, there were faint, but VERY obvious pink lines on both of the tests. I brought them into the bedroom for Frank to review, and after glancing at them for one second, Frank said, “Now THAT’S positive!” And that was it. I could feel myself grinning and thinking of how I was going to tell Stephanie and Terry that it worked, but you know what happened next – I woke up. Dangit. Just a dream, but I’m taking it as sign of good things to come. :)

Congratulations! I have had my first “positive pregnancy test” dream, last night and this morning I took a test and came out negative. Wishful thinking, I suppose but will try again later this evening after work. I hope to be as lucky as you are (and all the women out there).

I Had A Dream That I Had A Positive Pregnancy Test & Your Dream Was Very Simular To Mine. The Only Difference Is Both My Lines Were Pink!! & I’m Not On Clomid But I Had Laprascopic Surgery Done In 2004-05. They Placed A Stent In My Tubes To Keep My Tubes From Collapsing. Then Removed It!
My First Positive Pregnancy Test Dream Was When I Was Pregnant With My daughter 12yrs Ago!!! That’s How I Always Find Out!!

5. Christie - October 24, 2007

I had 2 dreams similiar to yours. One on day 22 of being late and one on day 23. I already had 6 bfn hpts and 1 negative from bloodwork. My dreams were as follows: I dreamt on Wednesday I took an hpt and it was a faint positive, and on Thursday I dreamt I took a digital that was clear with the word “pregnant” spelled out pretty clearly. Thats all I dreamt. I dreamt about taking the test and getting the results. Then I’d wake up. On Saturday, my 25th day of being late, I took a test and got a faint bfp. On monday I got a bold bfp! You could say that my dream predicted my test results really. BUT NOW I”M FACED WITH A NEW DREAM TO DETERMINE. My first appt is Nov. 5th ,but I think I am carrying twins. Its the same feeling I had when I was 20 days late and couldn’t shake the feeling that I was pregnant, but I was unsure, because I’d never been pregnant before. I had a dream on Monday or Tuesday after I found out I was pregnant and its been my only dream about the baby so far. In my dream I was at the U/S and they found twins. All my dream was was me looking at the ultrasound and seeing twins. Then bam, dream over, and I woke up. Since then, I can’t shake this feeling that I am carrying twins! You know…maybe its all coincidence….Maybe its wishful thinking…I don’t know. My dad is a fraternal twin. As a child I always thought I’d be the one in the family to have the twins…but I haven’t been praying and hoping for it, you know? I read that the hyper ovulation gene can be passed down by the mother to her twin son, and her son can pss the gene to his daughter…which would be me…and my two other sisters… This is my first pregnancy, and I believe I’m 9 weeks. I’ve heard that sometimes your first dreams about your child is your body telling you what your’e having…?

i had a dream like this one but mine went like this… me and my older brother walked into the hospital to get a test done i dont know why. and i sat down to pee and peed right onto the test then held it downwards then placed it on the floor and the results came up as two lines witch ment i was pregnant but wen the dr. came in it was lyk a high tech pregnancy test witch told you the sex and a few other things and when he read it it looked different then wen i read it the whole test was different and he sed you have nothing to worry about your not pregnany… i dont know it was the weirdest thing ever… now i got my period last month and by mistake me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex… and we are waiting two weeks and it seems lyk the longest two weeks of my life… and during these two weeks i had this dream i didnt tell him about it cuz i dunt wanna scare him even more then he is…

I had a dream last night that I was in my bathroom and i took a pregnancy test and the test was a positive I went running down the hallway yelling to my husband that we were pregnant and then it just ends and repeats all over that happened all night. any ideas on what it means?

We have been trying to conceive for a while and have not had any success. This is the first pregnancy dream I have ever had.

Well I hope it means that we are.

My first dream was about a pregnancy test and it was a positive. My second dream was avout another pregnancy test but this one had 3 lines on it total. My brother was holding it up and saying this is a good sign of pregnancy. My third dream was a nurse walked into the waiting room and said you ARE pregnant, then I woke up.I have not tested yet because I didnt want to be diapointed but I have never in my life dreamed of these things and I know that my dreams end up being linked to my life,

Last night I drempt that I had taken a pregnancy test. It was the dollar tree kind that you use the dropper with. Except that there were 4 tests all together on what was about the size of an index card. It showed 4 bfp’s!!! I was so excited that I woke up to test this morning (7 days prior to af being due) just to receive my 3rd bfn so far. I know it’s just way to early to tell, but after my dream I just had to test again! lol. I’m hoping that since there were 4 tests in all, that means that by the 4th one I’ll receive a bfp! I’m holding off on testing again for a few days at least! :O)

I was 41 and had my first child, I knew it was going to work, (iui) the doctors said it was a slim chance. but I knew. and 3 mths later, I was pregnant. now I am 45 and I tried for almost a year on med, I still know I am to have another child or twins, I have always felt that. my sister said she dreamt of me having another, I have dreamt that same thing. we were going to do egg donor but the fees were too much for us. foster and adoption did not work out for us either.
anyway, last night I dreamt that I was just pregnant and I was going to the doctors to confirm it with a blood test. the doctor said to me, why are you here and I said I’m pregnant, go figure with all of the things I did it finally just happened. we were both very excited. This is the first of my pregnancy dreams but my sister has had a few for me. I dont know what this means, but I hope its pregnancy.

Oh, p.s. I went to a psychic last year and she predicted another pregnancy for me after 2 pregnancies and a wedding in my family. and guess what, my husbands niece had a child and now my nephews wife is pregant, my nephew is getting married next mth.
its all pretty creapy

19. Ria - March 23, 2009

I had a strange dream last night that I took a pregnancy test, and it came back positive with two faint pink lines. I’ve never had a dream like this before, and so this is especially out of the ordinary for me. Also considering that I’m on the last day of my cycle today, why would I have a dream about a ppt. My younger sister is pregnant and is a twin, so perhaps I’m dreaming that my sister is pregnant with twin girls! But in the dream I peed on the stick, and saw the two pink lines, and the dream ended just like that. Maybe I’m pregnant with an idea, as opposed to being actually pregnant.

I am 22 and have been having the desire to become pregnant lately, and sometimes feeling that I am. I think that I’m having a phantom pregnancy, could be simply having pregnancy sympathy for my sister…I miscarried about 2 years ago, and so maybe that’s where the desire to be prego comes from. I am conflicted, because I’m a sophmore in college and I originally planned to finish school, begin a career, and establish a home life before giving birth. But now, I am determined to be pregnant! What is up with me? Could my body be sending me messages that it’s ready to carry a child full-term. IDK!!! Someone please give me some advice!

i had a smiliar dream last night, i had a dream where i took a home pregnancy test and seen two lines meaning i was pregnant, i woke up this morning in shock and today i felt like i am pregnant but maybe its just my imagination… what do you think?

22. Lee - October 4, 2009

I am so happy to run across this site as to perhaps give me hopes of being pregnant again after 11 years. I have never had a dream about being pregnant and/or testing a pregnancy test. I had a dream 2 days ago that I took 3 pregnancy test and they all came out positive with very bold lines. I’ve been feeling fatigue the past couple of days. I thought I calculated my cycle right but after taking the test in real life and having it being negative, I was thinking maybe I miscalculated. My only sister also had a dream that I told her that I was pregnant. So I’m really hoping I am this time. I’ll be testing again in a couple of days.
